Re: CarbHelp

Thanks guys. I did a mess of rigging and have ruled out pressure. The floats in all three carbs are on the low side - so here's a thought: The bowl used isn't the normal bowl for this carb, the bowl is actually from a 4160 and there is a plug driven into the crosstube port that would normally supply...

CarbHelp

I have an interesting problem on an O/T engine, it is an original ford 406 with factory 3 X 2 setup on factory intake. I have rebuilt the carbs (and i do carbs all the time for circle track racing, esp 2 barrell) and when they are on the engine they are fine with the fuel pump running - it is a holl...

Re: 10 element 'diode'

Didn't mean to leave you guys hanging but we've had bad weather and tracks. Anyway we had a race friday and another race sunday. The air was terrific on friday and on the first qualifying pass the tires started smoking about half track and the car sashayed a little as john lifted and it took a hard ...

Re: Plug ground strap

Coatings? I bet you are right, so the holes with the yellowish tint have yet to get as hot as the holes with the bare steel strap? All else being equal, the hole with yellowish tint would be on the more fat side? Is that how you would read this?

Plug ground strap

We use autolite 3932 & 3931 plugs. I've noticed that the ground strap on some of the plugs has a yellow tint, almost like a haze that you could wipe off - but you can't. There isn't anything remarkable going on in the holes that this occurs in, the rest of the plug looks pretty much like the oth...

Re: Bypass Hose- BBC

What a lot of guys do is put yor-lock adapters and stuck a piece of 1/4" teflon hose to join them. Same stuff as on an air shifter. See it often on electric water pumps, just drill and tap a hole ito the cavity of the electric pump. Look for them on dragsters next time you're at the tarck.

Re: 2nd stage tuning

Just a followup on the second-stage thing, we tried it for the first time last sat. John slept a bit on the tree and hit the second stage along with high gear. It came on for for 1.4 seconds and picked us up from a 4.40/.41 to a sweet 4.30 flat. We're gonna try it at the hit and see if we can"t...

Re: Locating the instant center

That is all relative smoke and mirrors why change an abstraction that everybody relates to with another abstration when all concepts are theoritical and none of them explain nor take into account the fact that it is the ring gear that transmits all this energy into the car - the tire is just there, ...

10 element 'diode'

We just upgraded the sprag in the N.C. bolt together from a 5 element (that was screwed up) to the 10 element. first time out we had it too tight, moved 1 shim from front to rear and ran 4.41 and kept tuning at the end of the night we saw 4.30 flat. We are going to loosten it up and move another shi...

Re: wilwood master

I am not sure what you mean by 4 single disc. Your problem description and how you intend to fix it sounds ok, you piston sounds too large. As far as wilwood goes, good stuff and reliable, just be certain you get a dual bowl as many of the wilwood are single bowl. I have seen a lot of cars with the ...

Why so difficult?

We tested yesterday and the fresh tranny wouldn't even go into high gear, when we put it in reverse the damn thing howled as if we were abusing it. Why is it so difficult to assemble a good transmission? These were abruzzis' we had freshened locally, 2 of them for $1500 and if one is toasted what's ...

Re: Diagonal bar vs wishbone??

Overdrv, if you are doing a traditional backhalf stick to the traditional stuff ie a diagonal link. They are hard to improve upon and very simple to construct. The exotics take a higher skill level to build as they are very precise devices and you might want to stay away from them for now. You didn'...
