Re: AFR 227 Race Ready Head question

I'm going through all this right now. Yes, you have to use offset rockers with AFR 227's. The choices are either a shaft system or Harland Sharp with .050" offset. AFR told me you may be able to get away with standard rockers, but it would side load the valves, so it wasn't adviseable. You'll a...

Re: Copper Gaskets

Most guys are going to the MLS gaskets, like Cometic. We've ran them in a couple motors with 0 issues. I've talked to professional engine builders that used to o-ring blocks for forced induction, but don't have to anymore since switching to Cometics. They're not exactly cheap, though...About $100 a ...

Re: My thoughts on Predator carburetors.

So Frank, when do you think you might get some dyno numbers on that 434? It sounds like you'll be WELL into the 600 h.p. range. Mike We're still gathering a few parts right now. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer. According to Shafiroff, this thing should make closer to 700, at the flexplate. I...

Predator. It'll run quicker and be more consistant. You'll also never have to guess on jets again.

Re: My thoughts on Predator carburetors.

There's also a very lengthy thread on "TellowBullet" right now about the Predator. The original thread was very old, but there are many new additions in the last several pages...

Re: My thoughts on Predator carburetors.

Wanted to update this. Since the new combination is quite a bit more radical than the last, I wanted to talk to Predator about if we needed to make any changes to the carbs. The twin Predators are now going on a Shafiroff 434 bottom end with 14.25 compression, and a cam with .727" lift, and AFR...

Re: Head nut and washer for AFR 227's...Between center 2 spr

Talked to both AFR and ARP today. These nuts are sold as singles, and cost under $2 a piece. The base is only .700" in diameter, and they use a 1/2" 12 pt. socket, instead of a 9/16". They fit a standard 7/16" stud. The part number is ARP 300-8303. Both told me to grind the washe...

I had wondered about that, but I'm using the ARP number on AFR's web page for the 227's. I'm hoping I don't have to buy a whole new set of head studs, just for 2 studs.

Head nut and washer for AFR 227's...Between center 2 springs

I'm pulling my hair out here. I'm trying to bolt these AFR 227's on. I have absolutely no clearance between the 2 center springs for a washer or nut. I'm trying to use ARP 234-4301 stud kit with 12PT. nuts, which is what AFR recommends. Even after pulling the springs, I have no room for a washer, be...

Have you checked on other sites to see if anyone on there ever did a Holley vs Predator test?

I'm sure someone had too?

See ya...
Yes, I've seen one dyno test where the Predator made more power across the whole range. I'll have to see if I can find it again.

Re: My thoughts on Predator carburetors.

You bring up some excellent points, but the reason that many sancioning body cars only use Holleys is because that is stated in the rules. My point was, if an engine only needs less than 930 CFM, I'd rather run a Predator and not have to deal with the finicky tuning of a holley. You bring up another...

Re: My thoughts on Predator carburetors.

how would the predator work on a street car.. idle quality etc,, how much taller than the holley is it,, are air cleaners available for them I've known severak people, personally, that have used Predators on the street. Predator makes a carb with an idle circuit specifically for street use, but we'...
