Exhaust Systerm
Has anyone run an Xpipe? I am thinking of running an Xpipe and blow through mufflers, I am not getting to the track much so I figured I can put an Xpipe and bullet mufflers and turndowns in front of the axle, go to some cruise ins. Do I need 3" or 3.5" duals? Any help would be great. Thank...

Re: Gas vs Race Gas vs E85 vs Alcohol
I think the compression is about 10 to 1, GM 990 heads with the 119 chambers. There is no porting or anything done. I may try to clean the casting flash and just smooth the runners out. The block is not decked. Its a 4 bolt, HI PERF block with the 1054 crank and dimple rods.

Gas vs Race Gas vs E85 vs Alcohol
Guys, just wanted to weigh the advantages of which would be the best for the upcoming year. For me, I do drive a bit on the street, I was leaning towards the E85, but for the mileage (about 150 a year) is it worth it to convert the carb over to save a 1.50 a gallon? Then, can you run Nitrous on E85?...

Re: Big Block Chevy Build
Ok, I do have a question, I know there is a difference between Nodular Iron and Forged, but whats the difference between the 4340 and 5140 forgings? I like the 496 kit with the 5140 crank, how much power can that handle vs the 4340 package?

Eastwood Welders/Plasma
Hi Everyone, I just had a question. The Eastwood Co. is selling TIG/Plasma combo for about 1000dollars. Or a Mig 175/Plasma for like 875, has anyone used their stuff? Is it a good welder for a home DIYer? I figured for the amount, the TIG / Plasma would be a great starter.

Re: Oil Pan Leaking
Thanks guys. I talked to a friend of mine that runs a garage (non performance), and he told me he loved the 1 piece felpro gaskets. The problem that he had, was he torqued everything to spec and said he had the leaks in the front and rear (I am only leaking out the front on the oil pan under the tim...

Oil Pan Leaking
Guys, I have a problem, this motor really does seem to be jinxed. The problem now is the oil pan is leaking right in the very front under the harmonic balancer, where the timing chain cover meets the oil pan, I used a fel pro 1 piece gasket, and no matter what I seem to do it the front leaks, I had ...

Welder / Plasma Cutter Package
Hi Guys, I have a question, Eastwood is selling a TIG/Plasma cutter for 1000. Can anyone tell me anything about The Eastwood Companies products? I just use this stuff for hobby, not a pro, but I do want to start making more/welding and doing more of my own welding/cutting and make it look like a pro...

Re: Bent Valves, AGAIN?
The Problem? I know the engine shop said the valve to guide clearance was too tight, so that very well could have been the problem, it binding the valve that bit of time and then the piston making contact. I think the head gasket now is just .009 thicker compressed. Just think there where too many c...

Re: Engine Building
If your going to the 383, what about that 3.875 stroke crank? Car Craft did that and made a 396, and since its in a truck, wouldn't you be looking for the most tq you could get? I am not sure the price difference, but if your gonna buy one, would that be worth it?

Re: Bent Valves, AGAIN?
I think that valve to guide clearance was part of the problem, the lash was wrong, the guy that built the engine gave my dad a set of lash #'s .012 and .014 and it was supposed to be .028 and .030, so that could have been part of the problem, I also put the cam straight up, it was advanced. Also swi...

Re: Bent Valves, AGAIN?
Guys, thanks for all the input. Here is what I found / did. First, Disassembled everything to the short block. Sent the heads back to PA with my dad to a machine shop his friends use. The Valve to Guide Clearance needed to be "Opened" up a bit on the exhaust valves. Once that was done, hea...

Re: Bent Valves, AGAIN?
OK, got some tools, I got a magnetic bridge piece, and put my dial indicator in it, this is what I got, I set the dial indicator to 0. Here is what I got #4 was .342 #8 was .346 #1 was .334 #5 was .333 #8 was the problem cylinder. I talked to the guy that originally built the engine, said, he gave a...

Re: Bent Valves, AGAIN?
Ok, got to get some work tonight, I got the front end off, when I looked the cam looks like its advanced 2degrees. top the dot is straight down and the bottom says A2, I am thinking that, it would be good to run the cam straight up? Would there be any extra issue running the cam advanced like that?

Re: Bent Valves, AGAIN?
Wikd69, I didn't even think of that. I was thinking I just needed to check the Piston to valve clearance and put the top end back together and go from there. Do you think there is damage to the cam, I wiped the piston off there are no grooves or anything, but still would have hit pretty good to bend...
