tying the frame

#1 Post by racecar1973 » Tue Jun 23, 2009 10:05 pm

What size and type of tubing should I use to tie the frame on the Nova I've been trying to find out what I can and cant use. I'm just getting started so I don't want to use something that I'm gonna have to change later because it won't certify. Any suggestions?

This is what I did but i made my own. 2x3 sq. tubing .120 wall.

look at the pics and you can figure it out. I did mine in about 4.50 hrs. and $45.00 in cost.

So you did it thru the floor? This may be a stupid question but should I put solid body bushings on the car then tie it or just leave the stock bushings in it first?

i would put a solid bushing, some people like polly and they are pretty stiff. The point is to get rid of flex and the stock bushings will flex and they have cracked and sagged over the years.

The more solid you can make the car the brtter it will be. I also have a 14 point roll cage in the car which makes it very stiff.

Sounds good I was thinking of using round tube to tie the frame but what you have done looks real clean. I just don't want to run into ant snags along the way. what will your car cert too?

My car should cert to 8.50. It's a mild steel cage and I think thats about it. I like these sub frame connectors, they don't hang out from under the car. Thay are a lot of work to put in but worth it.

I'll post some pic's.

look at how the sfc's are tucked under the car. Also check out the out riggers and how the roll cage is attached to the out rigger and sfc.
