Leaf Spring clearance?

Leaf Spring clearance?
How much clearance is needed between the sidewall of the tire and the rear section of the leaf spring? What would the minimum be? 1/4" or 1" It's a 71 Nova drag car only.

The time you'll have an issue with them rubbing is when turning on the return road, etc. Going down track the sidewalls suck in and clearance increases. In my opinion, I'd like to see at least 1/2" there if possible. I've ran tighter than that on the inner fender well and outer, and less than 1/2 will scrape the tire some when turning.

Thanks, that's kinda what I was thinking.
So can I move the rear leaf spring over using the sliders instead of shackles and not move the front spring perches? What about the pad on the rear end?

Yes, you can move the rear of the spring in and keep the front mounts stock, but the front holes will have to be slotted and rewelded in the front mounts to keep from binding the spring when you move it in. And yes, the pad on the rear end must be moved in as well.
