Hitting the tire hard

#1 Post by ERV JR » Fri Aug 17, 2007 10:29 pm

I am building for a stock susp class that runs a m/t 28 11.5 et street aprx 8.6 tread width. No trans brake allowed must run a 3 speed auto
I was wondering if leaving off idle and flashing the converter would help to hit the tire harder or would it be better to chip the launch rpm to 2500 to 3300and flash it from there? I know i will have to try it and see what works but wanted some info on what seems to work best foe other small tire foot brake cars. Oh its a 69 nova aprx 3200 lbs, cal trac bar with aprx 1000 hp with the unit.

My Nova likes to launch at 1700-1900 with a 3000 stall converter. Best 60 ft so far is 1.845. I have a sbc with approx 400 HP.
Launched at 1700 with a 2500 converter and a 150HP hit of nitrous. Best N2O 60 ft was 1.67. Haven't launched the Nova with the 3000 converter and N2O yet.

Footbrake, TH350, CE Slide a Links, stock multileafs and 4.10 rear gear, 3300 lbs, Hoosier QTPs 27x10.5-15s.
69 Nova 408 SBC
Best to date: 10.241 @ 128.36 mph 1.404 60ft.

Flashing the convertor will make it hit the tires harder. Whether it helps your 60' times, you'll just have to try it and see. Theoretically, flashing the convertor will also slow down your reaction times as the motor will have to pick up rpm before the car starts moving.

With my setup it always leaves harder and 60s better when leaving off idle.

When I ran all motor, my car was quicker by flashing the converter. I'd foot brake it to 1500 and let it flash to stall.

Same here. Leaving at ~1500 works best for me. If I load the converter too much the front end will rise and I lose my front end travel.

What about with a transbrake???? Will it hit the tires harder say if I have a 5000 stall would it hit harder leaving at like 3200 compared to leaving at 4000??

It should hit about the same, the biggest difference will be in your reaction time.

Question for all the guys that foot brake to 1500 are you on a multi step to keep it there or are you doin it yourself ? I have done it before with my feet but wonder about a two step with a series switch on the brake and gas pedals for ease of staging, just wonder if the car would load up and foul plugs being on the limiter so low.
