new guy wants to launch

#1 Post by molevolent » Sun Feb 15, 2009 7:35 pm

hey im new to this thread, just want to say hi to everyone.

i have a 1970 accadian(Canadian nova)
379 sbc
200r4 trans over drive automatic trans
3500 stall
5.14 gears
33x15x15 slicks at track
car is tubbed with 4-link
10 point cage with bars through firewall to subframe. full frame setup.
weighs 3180 lbs with me in it and 15 gallon fuel cell full.

we dont have a track where i live closest one is 8 or 10 hours away.
but the town beside us has a test and tune and a 3 day weekend every year on the airport runway wich is no longer in service.
over the years they have pored a concrete launch pad and have a full tree and time board set up

so the thing is i want to get the front wheels off the ground, the car is low 11 sec high 10s this year(fingers crossed) so im not out to set any records.car ran 12.6 with a motor i tossed together with what i had laying around last year. just finished new motor.
just want to give the croud a good show.
so im wondering the best setup is for getting the wheels up.

couple things im wondering.
90/10 front shocks?
lighter coils in front that still hold up the engine weight?
bump stops removed from control arms?

4 link setup below instant center? bottom bar parell to ground top bar highest hole over diff, lowest hole on chassis

do i want rear shocks at 50/50 so the car squats or stiffer so the car rotates over the diff?

thanks in advance for your help.
i have wheelie bars ready to go on if she does want to come up. dont want to put it on the bumper just high enough to get them talking.

heres the car http://www.cardomain.com/ride/839866

no bump stops, 90/10's and trick springs. If you have good tires she ought to rise plenty. may need some juice to get er going.

Yep, what they said, welcome to the site :-)

Nice build on your ride, too. Looked at your photo page, and yep, I think that shot of you welding is pretty cool too...

thanks for the welcome guys.

1.what setting should my shocks be in the rear?

2.to figure out what spring rate for the front im wonder what you guys think.

i have coil over shock in rear and i had to put 150 qa1 springs to get the shock to sit at the proper height per manufacture.
with 125s and car sitting on ground, i would have 1 inch of shock shaft showing.
150 spring rate is for Total Weight on Rear Wheels: 1250 - 1450 lbs.

now my car only weighs 3180 with me in it. how much weight do you think is on the front and over rear? would i go with something rated for around 1600? assuming that the rear would be closer to 1450?
i wasn't able to weigh 4 corners or even half at a time yet.

some things i have done for weight transfer are.
moved motor back 2.5 inches
fiberglass- fenders, pin on cowl hood, bumpers, deck lid
driver seat is also moved back
aluminum interior,floor
modified the front subframe used tubing in place of some factory metal
moved rear end forward 2 inches from stock
battery in rear, fuel cell in center of frame rails in trunk,
radiator is moved back 2 inches from stock.

thanks

sorry made a typo last post, i had 150s in the car not 125s.
i now have 200s in the car to get the shock in the right travel
Spring Rate: 200 lbs/in., Total Weight on Rear Wheels: 1450 - 1800 lbs.

so is it safe to get something rated for 1600lbs for the front?

thanks

any thoughts on what shock should be at on rear? loose or tight
