manual steering vs power steering
Hi guys my car is a 69 nova i have put autofab upper and lower control arms and coil over qa1 r series. Now i want to take out the power steering rack and change it to a manual steering box how hard is it to swap , also my friend has the maual steering box but it has no pitman arm can i use the one from the power steering rack? How much weight will i be saving from eliminating the power steering? Thanks
Re: manual steering vs power steering
it's very easy to switch but you do need a different pitman arm and a different rag joint other then that get it aligned and your done.
if you have headers i would pull the drivers side header that way it will be a snap
oh one more thing make sure you turn the wheel left to right and count the turns so you can center it before you connect the pitman so you get full left and full right steering

How much weight do you think i could save. Thanks
Re: manual steering vs power steering
You'll save 10# over the power steering box. Here's a post I made a while back about shaving weight off my Nova and what you gained.
