Getting ready to order Caltracs.
Well I haven't did hardly a thing all winter to the car and I need to get busy on it. I am planning on ordering some Caltracs and Split monos in the next week or so. Any body have any suggestions on rear ride height? If I read correctly on their website you can order them at stock height or +-1". Just curious as to what most people go with, or should I just check with them when I order?

Good point....the answer is no it is not tubbed. Run small tire and no plans in immediate future to tub it. Maybe one day I will mini tub it, but right now I like running small tires. I guess I will have to check for the clearance.Mick wrote:IS YOUR CAR TUBBED ?, WOULD THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE OF BEING ABLWE TO LOWER IT.

1.5" drop might sound like alot, but it's really not. Both cars sit about the same as they did with doggedout single leafs. I moved the shocks inboard, got 275/60's on 8's w/5.5bs and there is plenty of room. Walt

Re: Getting ready to order Caltracs.
Walt,
Is it necessary to move the shocks inboard? I haven't ordered my ranchos from Calvert yet, I'd like to get by without relocating, but it looks like there isn't much room in the stock location.
I'm running the same setup; 275/60/15 on a 8 rim with 5.5 backspace.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Re: Getting ready to order Caltracs.
When I originally had mine in the stock location with that same size tire, it is tight. Usually the tire rubs the top a little, but the big problem is the bottom mounting location, If I remember right, I could not use the stock stud, but I had to use a bolt and then shim it with washers to keep it from hitting both the mount but no so many as to rub the tire.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

solidgnova, I really can't tell you about tire clearance with the shocks in the factory location. When we did both cars, we changed everything at the same time. I 've heard everything will clear if you run a spacer. Walt p.s. hey ytnova ya gotta check out the race coverage at sunshinedragstrip.com

Got everything under the back end of the car last weekend. Caltracs and split monos as well as new Energy Suspension bushings and shackles. Took it for a pass down the road and can really feel where it tightened the car up, both on the launch and on the top end from swaying. Can't wait to get it to the track to see how it feels there.

Re: Getting ready to order Caltracs.
Well got out today and made 4 runs. This is what I got in 1/8.....keep in mind I rolled it off the trailer and did not touch a thing, heck I haven't even adjusted the valves since last summer, but plan on doing that this week.
1st run DA 1109 1.483, 7.088 @ 97.691 ( I think I had first pass of new season jitters)
2nd run DA 1116 1.479, 6.996@ 98.185
3rd Run DA 939 1.468, 6.972 @ 98.362
4th Run DA 685 1.475, 7.011 @ 97.512
All passes were made with rear shocks set on 2, and with 18 psi in rear tires. Didn't feel like trying a bunch of things as this was a bracket race, but hoping to get a test session soon. I'm pretty happy so far, but think there might be a little bit more in it. I'm just happy to have broken into the 6s in the 1/8, which should put me pretty close to high 10.9s?

Congrats on getting in to 6's hugger, you've gotta be in the 10's. It seemed like it took forever for me to get past the 7.0-11.0 barrier, went 10.8's last time out, ya gotta love that Calvert stuff . Walt

Yeah. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. Plan on racing in 2 weeks at Maryland for the Pinks All Out Qualifier, so I will get some 1/4 runs then, but hopefully I will get some this weekend. I've been after that 10 sec mark for a while now with this setup. Hopefully a good set of aluminum heads and a different cam will put it deeper into the 10s. Also plan on going to a 4.56 gear as well.waterdog wrote:Congrats on getting in to 6's hugger, you've gotta be in the 10's.
