68 Camaro Steering Shaft Assembly

#1 Post by MMAX » Sat May 02, 2009 4:42 pm

Anybody have any info on the steering shaft assembly under the hood of a 68 Camaro. It has manual steering and something broke last time I had it out last fall. I heard a loud snap and I lost the steering. Upon disassembly, I couldn't see where anything would have sheered off. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if someone could point me in the right direction to repairing it. Anything I tried to find in Google only talked about the steering column.

Sounds like a problem with the steering box. Is the shaft turning going into it?

I fixed it. It was a problem with the coupler, the shaft from the gearbox slipped out of the coupler assembly. Just loosened all the bolts, the shaft slipped back into place and I cranked them down good and hard.
