Re: Just a look
supernova,
Could you post pics of your cage, specifically the back bars going through the package tray? I'd like to see where you went thru the tray & where the bars end up in the trunk. It'll help me with the install of my 10-point.
Thanks!

I went through the out side of the speaker hole and then used 22 gage sheet metal to close the whole package tray off. I also covered the seat back with 22 gage sheet metal so the trunk is closed off from the rest of the car.

I know how you feel. my nova was less thab pristine for a number of years simply because I couldn't decide between red or black.

spaz109,
yea, if you don't mind, perhaps you can email me? I don't want to hi-jack this thread with a bunch of chassis shots
My car is hopefully going to the chassis shop this weekend!

Re: Just a look
Thanks supernova...I was going to suggest he message me his email. But since your a gentleman and a scholar...
Sorry, my wife forgot the camera cable, so I had to get the pics with my phone.
The back seat still fits. I attached the kickers to my frame connectors. You may have more room for a pad in your trunk as I have mini-tubbed mine. If you are interested in minitub pics I can send you the facebook gallery link, or you can look me up on facebook gregspaz109@hotmail.com

Re: Just a look
Spaz & supenova,
Do either of you know if the bend in the back bars is approved for NHRA? I like the clean look of dipping down through the package tray and being able to keep the seat backs (just for aesthetics)
I've heard a few different interpretations of what's legal and what's not...
Thanks guys, for posting pics btw

Re: Just a look
Far as I know that's legal for a sportsman cert (NHRA/IHRA) good to 8.50/5.50. That's what I have in my car and it certed twice (through package tray).

Re: Just a look
Jonh is right. It will only cert to 8.50. My car is and will only be a true street drag radial tire car so it has mild steel and not all the faster cert stuff.

Re: Just a look
Mine has passed tech at nhra sanctioned track. If you read the book the only stipulation of the back bars are diameter and angle from vertical. I just made sure the angle of the most vertical part of the bars was greater than this spec (I think it was 30 degrees maybe?) but, I've never had to prove myself.
If your keeping the back seat, as I did, the trick to getting the bottom in is you have to roll down one of the quarter glasses and hang it out a bit to get it in passed the main hoop. I didn't measure and just lucked out that it fit behind the hoop. But, all I did was try to get the hoop as close to the b pillars as possible so it wasn't blatently obvious there was a cage in the car.
If your a window tint fan (like me) you may want to tint the back window first and cover it when the cage is put in. It's a bi ch to get the tint over those bars!
Another after thought that I had that I would like to share...you may want to make the brace that runs side to side behind the seats in the main hoop removable, kinda like swing out side bars. It's kinda like a jungle gym gettin in the back now.
