65 Comet Chassis tuning help for a rookie !!!!

#1 Post by projim64 » Mon Aug 31, 2009 7:24 pm

New here and just helped a friend finish a 65 Comet for N/SS racing here on the east coast.
I am looking for some advice on some chassis tuning and setup of base lines to start from.
The car is back halfed with ladderbars and coil overs ,chrome moly cage .
It has a 427 ,c4,9 inch with 5.29 gears .
We scaled the car and it comes out at 58 % front to 42 % rear.
Tires 31 10.5 W Mickeys Et slicks
single adjustable Qa 1 rear shocks with 130 # springs, double adjustable vary shocks on the front with 450 # springs
We have both had pro street cars for years but this is the first drag car we have built.
So far we are very happy with the performance of the car but are always looking for advice from those of you that have been down the track more than we have.
So far the car has gone a 1/4 mile best of 9.34 at 145 mph with a 1.34 60 foot.
Yesterday we had to test on a 1/8 th mile and had a 1.28 60 foot at 118 mph.
Some chassis specs cam shaft height at 22 inches ,front ladder bar height at 12 inches , 36 inch ladder bars 58 % front , 42% rear.
So if you need any more info let me know and I will see if I can help . I am a rookie at this tunning stuff and would appreciate any advice.
You can see pictures of the build on here if interested. Thanks,Jim.

Jim,

Do you ever get to Maple Grove at all?

If so, I could hook you up with a guy down there that can give you some tuning tips.

He's the VP of S&W Racecars and is down there weekly with his RED.

Oh yeah, welcome to this site, there are some pretty good guys here.

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, Maple Grove is 10 minutes from my home and we just did some testing there on Sunday to the 1/8 th mile since the water was coming up again.
I know a bunch of guys that race there and we run with the 422 Motorsports Team out of Oaks,Pa.
Thanks for the help ,Jim.

Do you know Don Scholl from S&W Racecars? His boy, Kevin runs a rail there every weekend and I'm sure he would be glad to give you some help. Just don't mention me....he might hold it against you...

If you want, I can give you his email and you could always set something up?

That would be great . Here is some eye candy from Wednesday's test and tune at Cecil County . Not bad for the 6 th full quarter mile pass (9.06 144mph)but we think it has an 8 second pass in it . We will see this weekend at Delmar.
