Removing the innner fender wells?

Does it really have a benefit? I heard people claim that it slows the car down due to the air building up under the hood. I am looking to put my car on a diet and dont want to use fiberglass bumpers cause it is a street car so i am looking for the next best thing. Also thinking about removing the heater box in the engine bay, how hard is it to remove? Also how much would i save in weight buy removing the inner fender wells and heater box? Thanks

Inner fenders total about 40 lbs If memory serves me correct. I took mine out a couple of years ago. I think the weight savings out benefits the wind deal IMHO.

My inner fenders were 25 lbs. Didn't slow me down any when I took them out.

I forget how much the heater stuff weighed. Quite a bit. You can pull it all without removing the fenders.

When I went to a fiberglass hood, I lost the hood arms the latch and support. I also ditched the sway bar and inner fenders. I wanna say it saved me 200 or better.

When I removed my heater box out of my 69 camaro, I took a piece of 16awg metal and welded it in to cover the opening. Now they sell pieces to just bolt over the box. Do a search to see if anyone offers this for your car?
It's a lot easier to bolt on a cover then to do all the repair work to make the firewall look good.
