Suspension travel

#1 Post by camaroman9 » Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:17 pm

Does anyone have an idea of how much travel I should have in the front of my 67 camaro? I know different cars like different amounts, but what's a good starting point for a stock suspension car with radials?

Robert try to get as much travel as you can till it starts doing wheelies.
Then start using limiters. Thats after you stop smiling from the wheelies.lol

My drag radial car dont have limiters.
My TT5 car the limiters are set at 3/4 to 1 inch and I think you know why.

I've never seen the fox body ever do a wheelie. Lol. I'm trying to decide if I should lower my car a little more in the front or not is why I'm asking. I think we are come to TnT one night up there. We just aren't having any luck with anything down here. Maybe a change in scenery will change our luck.

Yes, get it as low as practical - ie able to get in and out of the trailer that is. The lower the car is the more available travel you have, and it'll catch less air on the top end.

I agree 5" to start.

Also, if the car does wheel stand excessively, work with tightening front shock rebound before using limiters.

If you use a lighter than normal spring in the front it will "store energy" so at the hit it will pull the front up and plant the rear....We have used 6cy springs in some V8 cars and that will work. If there to light you can try a set of 6cyd springs with air. There a little stiffer......It's a trial and error thingie.... At one time I had a garage full of coil springs  ...
