Chevelle steering box
Hey guys! The manual steering box in my chevelle is kind of loose. When I go straight down the road I can wiggle the wheel back and forth with out actually turning the car. So I loosend the jam nut and tightend the adjuster screw just a little (not quite a full turn). It seemed to tighten up the looseness going straight but made it stiffer when turned to almost full lock. Is the dumb thing just worn out???? Or am I doing something wrong? Its not a tie rod or anything, cause everything in the front is new, and i checked for that anyway. The only thing that isnt new in the front is the steering box. Also if I do need a different one, are some better than others? Like a camaro?? Are they the same up into the 90s???
Re: Chevelle steering box
Its probably worn you can get them rebuilt but you can get a lighter Vega style from Flaming River or Borgeson.A lot of GM Saginaw boxes will interchange they might have different ratios so check into that before swapping one.
