Mini tubbing ?s for 69 nova.

#1 Post by 434 nova » Thu Oct 21, 2010 9:36 am

If i mini tub my car and keep the springs in the stock location can i fit a 10 inch rim on the car with a 29.5 x 10.5, i already have my shocks moved in board. Right now i can fit a 28 x 10.5 on a 8 inch rim and a 1/4 inch spacer but it rubs sometimes on the inner frame rail. I have about a inch clearence from the leaf spring and rim right now. If i move my leaf springs in board what is the biggest tire i can fit with a mini tub. Also how much should i expect to pay for a mini tub. Thanks

I'm pretty sure I've seen John comment that he's tried a 29.5 and it's too tall without stretching the wheel opening. I've had a 29 x 12 in mine and it was all the bigger I'd want to go...on top of that it was a pretty old hard slick which probably wasn't growing that much.

As far as width I cannot extend my .02 as I have moved my springs in.

I have 275/60/15 drag radials on 10" wheels 5.5 BS on my 72 Nova. My tires are just a 1/4" away from the springs in the back with the springs in the stock location. The side walls stand straight up on that rim. When I had the tires on a 8" rim, there was more cleance on the side of the tire.

Hope that helps some.

I have a 71 nova, I have moved the wheel tubs in just to the frame rails in the stock location, springs are in the stock location, I am running a 30X9 Hoosier slick on a 10 inch weld wheel with a half inch spacer. Shocks are inboard, rear is stock width, quarter panel sits down over the tire about 2.5 inches and you can just get your fingers between the body and tire. Clearance from sidewall to leaf spring is about a quarter inch. The section width of the tire is at. 13.2 inches.

I think you'll have to move the rear part of the spring inboard in order to fit that tire with that rim. You might find the 28x10.5" is the biggest you can run on a 10" rim. This is just based on a friends car that ran a 28x10.5s on a 10" rim, with stock front spring mount w/rear moved inboard. How high the car sits also plays a big part in what you can fit also, lower=less room.

Cost - going to vary depending on what part of the country, etc. Plan for no less than $500 as much as $1500 very rough ball park. Some personal advice, go ahead and put full wheel tubs in vs doing the inner only, you'll pick up a little bit more clearance on the outside of the tire.

you will have to move the rear section of the spring inboard to clear a 29.5x10.5x15w and you will need to slightly trim the bottom corners of the fenders ever so little. now the 10 inch wide wheel will need to be either 7 inch back spacing or 6.5 depending on your tire side wall section i have
a (70) nova and a (67) nova and 3 (68) camaro's in the shop right now that we are minni tubbing
2 of the cars are getting the 29.5x10.5 W's and the others are getting the mt sportsman 28x12.5 tire's all on the 10 inch rims
hope that helps if i can help more let me know i have done so many minni tubs i can do them in my sleep lol
