I have a 74 Pontiac Ventura and was wondering how the rest of you guys were saving weight.I've done a few things like:aerospace front brakes,impact shocks on front and rear bumpers,rack and pinion,rear seat removed,fiberglass dash,hood hinges andlatch assy,underpinning on hood,inner fenders,heater box,air ducts,seatbelts,tar under carpet and old carpet.If anyone has any other weight saving tips please let me know.Thanks.

Sounds like you have done a lot. Without cutting stuff out, and replacing metal for fiberglass not sure wht else. Does it have aluminum heads already?

aluminum heads saves weight as well as aluminum radiator and it's all off the front.
Tube "A" arms saves alittle. I even bought a aluminum steering wheel like the sprint cars use.
I guess aluminum water pump and valve covers would save a few pounds also. Lexan windows.
Some of us drivers could lose 15-20lbs?

It has alu. radiator and heads.I haven't tried the tubular a-arms yet and it has sheetmetal valve covers.I was looking into fiberglass body panels but i wasn't sure if they were that much lighter than what i have.Also i could stand a few pounds myself.Thanks for the help.Mr.Heard thanks for that list.

My TRZ a-arms saved 22 lbs total.

A VW Scirocco radiator was only 4.5 lbs. Tons lighter than my Griffin aluminum radiator and holds less water.

Aluminum master cylinder, moly cage, clean the rubber out from under the car, cut the crash bars out of the doors (15 lbs), wipers, small battery, small fuel cell, Toyo front runners, light wheels, no window regulators, racing seats, put yourself on a diet if you've got any weight to lose, light weight steering column, carbon fiber parts instead of fiberglass, cloth braided lines instead of stainless braided, cut off the excess length of any bolt, gundrilled axles, moly tranny crossmember, undercut ring gear, mono leaf springs, no sway bars, small slicks, mini starter, aluminum torque converter, powerglide instead of three speed, aluminum driveshaft...the list could go on and on I suppose.

If you're REALLY serious about reducing weight, I saw a neat trick on a Mini Cooper. The rules required 2 operable doors. This car's "doors" were flimsy Fiberglas pieces that hinged at the middle of the top and opened like a 300SLR. They weighed a few ounces each.

I was looking at some pictures by the builder of the lightest ADRL Pro Extreme Car - "Lowmad" by Joey Martin. In one of the pics, you can see that he removed the upper half of the steering wheel - you know like on a three spoke, everything between the two upper spokes. Also it appears he made titanium pedals - that my friends is getting SERIOUS.

Take a look at yourself, too. A pound is a pound.
