1972 NOVA HELP!

#1 Post by 79 Camaro » Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:22 pm

My grandpa has a 72 nova with a stock steering column and he is wanting to install a quick release steering wheel. But alot of the kits we have looked at offer one for a 5/8" steering shaft or a 3/4" splind shaft.?? We dont know which one it has and was wondering if any of you knew right off hand.

Thanks

Hey Adam,

When I did a search on Summit for a kit, here is what I found: http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part ... +wheel+hub

Some of the options were for .750 and .625 shaft but when I clicked on GM 36 spline, it took me straight to those items.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, very cool video you posted :thumb:

One thing I took notice too was, on that PN 3021, it's say it fits a GM 36 spline shaft but the shaft diameter is .690".

On the second on, P/N 3001, it just says GM 36 spline?

Another thing is, the 3021 is made for 5 bolt steering wheels where the 3001 is for a 3 bolt steering wheel.

I've been thinking about getting one and these are the same numbers that keep coming up when I do a search for mine.

Ok so here's the deal. I called Grant wheels and asked what Q-release will work for a stock steering calumn. I was told the 3021 part# is for Nova's and Camaro's. But that the horn will not work and the turn signal cancelation mech. will not work.

That's fine for my car because it isn't street driven, but isn't your car liscensed?

I saw one on another site that you could use the horn and stuff but it was not cheap!

Thanks for the info.

Ah it was but it's not much of a street car now. I can drive it around the block and put it back in the garage before the cops show up.

Or you could fly out here to PA and help me install a new converter in my car and then after the front end gets painted you can help me install all the parts back on the car.

Now if that doesn't get things started up, I don't know what will :thumb:

Now get back to working on that car dude!

That's an order

If you lived closer I would be there, I alaways seem to find time to help people with their stuff but never my own. The hot weather is almost over and I have to finish my freinds car where my car is so maybe Ill sneak in some work on mine while Im there.
Thanks for the push guys.
