-8 Fuel Line

#1 Post by Tyler69z28 » Sat Oct 29, 2011 2:26 pm

How much horsepower can a -8 fuel line handle with a front mounted fuel cell?

Thanks
Tyler

I wouldn't think it would make a huge difference where the tank is mounted, I believe it might help your fuel pump though. Anyhow, if it isg as we are talking about I would say 600, a little less if it was e85 maybe 575 and less again if it was alcohol.

I run 1/2" (-8) with 1/2" return all the way from the back, if that helps.

My .02 but I'm not an expert.

Here's some good reading on fuel line size that might help you out: http://www.vipersoftheworld.com/archive ... t-789.html

This is how I have mine set up.

Fuel cell and pump are in the trunk. The pump is a Magna Fuel 500. I have a AN 12 that feeds the pump; a AN 10 that goes foreword to the engine bay and feeds the fuel log. I have 2 regulators on the fuel log, 1 reg for the carb and 1 for the nitrous fuel. The fuel reg has AN 8 lines to the carb and the fuel reg for the nitrous is a AN 6. The pressure to the fuel log is set at 30 psi. The fuel reg for the carb is set at 6.5 psi and the fuel reg for the nitrous is set at 5 3/4 psi. My motor is a 572 with a 1200 CFM dominator and a Wilson nitrous plate. With the plate pill'ed up the power it makes should be around 1300+ HP. With the pump and line set up, the fuel system should support a lot more HP than what I need for what Im using.
It's better to have more and not need it than it is to not have enough! Remember, fuel is what make power, not having enough is what hurts power and maybe even the motor.

I'm running two -8 lines from the trunk to the engine bay and two pumps. Holley black for the engine and a Holley blue for the nitrous. I've got two of the $20 Holley regulators with -6 lines coming out of both to the carb and the fuel solenoid. So far its been sufficient for 1/8th mile and my tune-up needs to be leaned out a little more.

I may upgrade the pumps and regulators this winter just as a precaution.

Craig,

I was thinking about running it just like you did but instead run Holley's new pump for the motor.
