Uni body roll cage mounting

#1 Post by Iron Cat » Tue Aug 26, 2014 11:49 pm

Hello fellas, great site..
Educate me please. My last build was an 82 gt fox body. I installed a S&W 10 pt roll cage via 6x6 plates to the stock floor/trunk pans and trans tunnel, as per NHRA rule book. Recently I've seen numerous uni bodies with the main hoop welded to outriggers off of the inner rocker area as well as the lateral support bars to thru-floor sub-frame connectors and the rear brace bars welded to a rear crossmember between the rear frame rails. that seems so much stronger than being welded to the flimsy floor pans. Are these cars not racing/getting tech'd or have I been left out of the loop on cage mounting rules?

Thanks in advance,Al

No, the plates are per the rule book. Anything over and above that is a good idea. If it were me, I would build as much of a frame under the car to support the cage as I could.

Thank you for the reply. The GT is gone now and I want to get into the next project, another fox body and I don't want to go the floor pan route again, as they're just paper thin.
