DOT is now talking about going after Rv 's and car trailer
just a word of warning to all who pull a trailer one of my state PD Buddies has told me that there is talk about the DOT( state PD) doing random pull over and inspection of trailers and vehicles being hauled on them as there has been more incidents of trailers and vehicles coming loose in transit , he said they will be looking at hitches ,chains (both tie downs and chains plus trailer emergency , proper placement of chains ( criss crossed under hitch , electrics ( lights and braking systems ) gvwr of trailers, tires , gvwr of tow vehicles ,trailer brakes and systems and said the fines are going to be steep plus you might have the vehicle put out of service ( which means either fix the problem there or have it towed to somewhere it can be fixed ) he said this is not the commerical enforcement but the general public enforcement as people think its got a hitch I can pull it . so far the number one thing he has found is nonoperationg brakes or only brakes on one axle working or only on one axle . the second is exceeding hitch specifications , this is going to be a multi state thing

In florida, fhp and dot has been stoping guys towing race cars because they say the need a cdl. Their reasoning is that the car is used for making money and thus, it is a business, go figure. There is a serious loop hole in the law concerning cdl's, for instance, If joe blow rents a u-haul to move his belongings, no cdl is required, but if you rent the same vehicle and haul goods for resale, then you have to have a cdl.

I think I'm going to paint "John Deere Antique Tractor" on the side of my trailer in great big green block letters, maybe they'll leave me alone.

I figured it would be a good theft deterrent to letter the trailer "Solid waste hauler" or "Radioactive material", but I don't spoz. that would be too funny to a guy with a badge.

we have had that problem here in va for some time they mostly mess with us for being too long but my cousin is s dot trooper and he said that technically they can fine racers towing their cars to the track without a cdl for bracket racing as it is a way of making money

Don't you have to leave with more than you showed up with to make money?

only if its more than 550 pounds worth ( if the drum is labeled and secured they ussually won't say anything )race9899 wrote:Also you can be fined for transporting fuel with out proper markings and paperwork
as for the racing for money bit it is wise to say "I trophy race "as racing for money now qualifies it a a commercial for profit entity enven thought
the IRS doesn't look at it that way when it comes to making deductions ...
