Cummins Diesel Tow RIg

#1 Post by stroker1 » Tue Mar 11, 2008 2:28 pm

I am looking into getting a used dodge truck with a cummins for towing my race truck, camping, and boats. I'm looking for suggestions on year model. What years to stay away from, and engine/transmission issues. I am open to the old grandpa body style and manual transmission as well. Will consider 12 valve and 24 valve.

How about HP ratings and torque?

Help me out, will ya??

I love my 2004 Dodge Dually, it pulls the 24' trailer loaded down heavy with ease.

When I was looking for a budget priced tow truck, my research pointed out there were a few years that the Cummins was particularly prone to lift pump failure. Plus, the transmissions weren't up to the massive torque. However, everyone seemed to brag about the engines themselves. I'm pretty sure these problems have been addressed in the more recent years. Do some searches as there's plenty of unbiased info out there.
