I have a question then. My car is a slower car with glide and trans break 4000 stall over 3000lbs small cubic inch motor and when i shift from 1st to drive it drops alot of rpm and takes some time to recover before it starts really pulling again and i have 4.88 gears.
Is there anything i can do to minamize the the time it takes to recover faster?

yes , this needs the stall raised in the converter. Do you have anything that records engine rpm during a pass? this could held a great deal in correctly setting the stall and the efficiency ratio in the converter.

I dont have a recall of the run just max rpm.
I could try and see on the shift how far it falls?
I'm getting ready to change the whole top end of the engine in the next week or two.

those changes to the motor will also effect stall, so be sure to discuss that as well with who ever does your stall change, if you are sending the converter to us then give me a call so we can go over all the details and i will start a file on the car. Marty Chance

Even with the added transmission weight, more gears are better, until you get to a spot where you have too much power, then decreases in power results in better E.T.s and trap speeds. The new cars have six and seven speed transmissions with lockup converters. If fewer gears worked better the Pro Stockers would all have powerglides.
