Guys I have a question for you concerning my brothers set up for next year.80 camaro weighing around 3700 maybe less if he takes more weight off. it is a 355 small block with unknown cam specs, guessing it is close to 315 duration, guessing also its advertised , 630 lift- 350 with trans brake,, engine made 550 HP at 6900 rpms and like 464 torque at 5200.. it will have 4.56 gears and a 28 " tire shifting at 7200, He has a chance to buy a tci #254006 8" race converter is this too much or will it work nicely for him? just don't want to run out of rpm with slippage?.. I don't know much about chevys only pontiacs, can you help us out?

sounds like that converter will work pretty good, the sbc with a 3.480 stroke is going to want a "loose" converter.

let me know what it stalls on the trans brake with out a chip. Also if you have anything that will record rpm going down track , find out what rpm it drops to on the shift.

Currently running a continental tight 10" 3200 stall... car makes peak torque about 4200 now using a single plane intake at 600 ft lbs 540 hp.With dual plane probably closer to 38-3900.. currently I shift at 5500 and it drops to 41-4200 on shift goes thru at 5200 with a 3.42 gear deepest gear available for my rearend, also a coan 2.75 low gear set, running small 26" slicks at 110.86

converter sounds pretty good. If you have Kris freshen it this winter you might have him loosen about 100-200 rpm, the other thing that stands out more is the gear ratio, i would try a rear end gear change to 3.60-3.70 and get the finish line rpm up to 5600

Thanks Marty, Actually it is on its way to Kris as we speak for just that,only we thought a stall of 3800 or so to really get the car moving out of the hole. I mean it did pretty good now with the 3200 leaving at 1.74 with the single plane on only one day of testing with that and 1.70 in great air with the dual plane, The reason I run the small slicks is to keep the 3.42 gear acting like a 3.64 in drive, when i run a 28" tire to match the 3.42 it slows down almost .2 and 1 1/2 mph. The rear is out of a 71 buick riviera a boat tail and that is the deepest gearset they came with and no aftermarket stuff available for these monsters,lol , but rear is strong 9 3/8 ring gear 31 spline bolt in axles factory. Kris said it might slip a tad more maybe another 150 rpm on the top and that would put me close to 5400 out the end

Well I think we are! ,lol. Kris has always been very good with me and hitting the stall mark!. Nice to always get a second opinion! Especially when it is from the chance's!. thanks!! I will let you know in the spring on my brothers, but might be able to see where it flashes to once the trans comes back in a week or two atleast for the stall.. He has no data logger so will have to use his eye i the spring if the car is ready. well things have changed now.. he is only going to have 4.10's and a 26" tire will that converter still work or is it too much?
