What can be done with a 9.5" converter?

#1 Post by SickSilverado » Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:18 pm

I was told that 9.5" aren't really efficient at higher stall speeds. I believe and trust the source, but I want to know what can be done with what I have. I have two PI 9.5" converters, one ford and one GM. What's the most stall speed I could get out of them without them being crap?

You might want to reference what you're putting them behind, what car, etc.

For example, that 9.5" might not be enough behind a Big Hemi with a Screw Blower

The GM one is behind a N/A 364" LS motor(th350), the Ford one is behind a mild N/A 351(C4). Both in 3200lbs. vehicles. I'm no expert, but I'd estimate both engines to make around 450hp or less. The GM has 4.56 gears and the Ford just got 4.88's, both on 29" slicks.

the effeciency capacity of the 9.5" is relative to the application. please answer the following
nitrous / turbo / blown / nat asp
cubic inch and bore and stroke
heads
camshaft specs
compression
efi/carb
shift rpm
finish line rpm
weight w/ driver
gear ratio
tire size
transmission
trans brake
engine dyno results

Marty is right, they might stall 3500 in one app and 5000 in another. I would guess they would be in the 3800-4500 range with milder engines you appear to have. Just depends on your combo's and what works best for them, in the 450 HP range they should be capable of stalling enough efficiently.

That makes sense.

Marty, I might be in touch with you for a couple new converters after we take these to the track and see how they do.
