engine oil

Royal Purple XPR-10-30. When the motor gets really hot if I get stuck in traffic and i'm sitting in gear at around 800rpm the oil pressure drops to around 20 but that's it. Soon as I start to move again, it's right back up to 60psi and that oil does well if you happen to have a motor that runs rich cause it handles the fuel getting into the oil well.
However, this year I'm much leaner when cruising because of my new carb so I'm not really worrying about that this year.

Re: engine oil
I've always been a Valvoline 20w50 customer. Probably because that's what the old man used back in the day and it has just carried over. I'm sure with the technology advances, different lighter weight synthetics are sufficient. I just get that feeling of security with the heavy oil.
The thin water like 5w20 that my HEMI DODGE TRUCK takes makes me cringe when I pour it in, however I understand that's what Chrysler recommends and it requires. Everyone has their own preference or someone has sold them on a particular oil, or the current marketing for a certain oil brand is appealing.. Come on... pretty much every major brand is effective...
Back in the mid 80's, my old man was wrenching for Paul Rossi's Super Gas Rampage, was a fun thing for him at the time.. He was a Quaker State oil sponsored racer.. Guess what, Quaker state went in all our dam cars.. Now, it's a new century, and he lives in Chicago, he comes to visit his grandchildren and tells me that Castrol GTX is what he uses.. just makes me smile..
REality check for the oil question... IF you have good oil pressure, your motors are not blowing up, the oil looks good as the motor gets abused... then the brand you are using is probably working.. But if you want to fall for all the marketing.. Go buy every synthetic and enjoy spending money.. Lord knows I have.. I think I'm going to call the old man and tell him that if you're not running 0w20 conventional oil in your ten thousand dollar big block racing engine then you're missing the boat.. Ha ha

Just topped my engine up with Castrol Syntec 5W-40. Haven't tried it before so I'll see how it works.

Re: engine oil
Penzoil 20-50GT plus a litre of Lucas additive for break in. Then Penzoil SAE60 and Lucas for running.
Re: engine oil
Red Line Race oil, 10w40
Re: engine oil
I've always been told to break the motor in on non-synthetic, then change to the syntheyic. Is there any truth to this? I'm running Mobil 1 5w30

Re: engine oil
Just as nuthernova stated, I've been a faithful Valvoline 10W-30 user for years, tried a couple of other brands a few times for shits & giggles but never saw a difference worth justifying the cost difference so I just switched back to ole' reliable.
