Yep, good idea. Don't forget to drain the water either. Wouldn't hurt to put it up on jackstands take the weight off the tires and suspension too.

Unless your garage is heated year 'round or you live in a warm climate, the tires would like to be stored somewhere warm too.

As far as the stud girdle goes, just loosen the bolts/nuts which attach or clamp it to the rocker studs and remove. Depending on which brand it is, I'm sure each manufacturer has specific torque recommendations for reinstallation. I would look it over carefully for a brand name which you need to know anyway. You won't be able to leave it on there forever.

Note: On a Big Block you need to pay attention to how far down on the rocker arm nuts it fits. Push it on too far or too little and it might not line up quite right on the studs forcing them out of alignment when you tighten things up.

I removed the stud girdle and still not sure of the make, I will check the Jegs cataloge see if there are any black stud girdles. one lock decided not to let go had to pull the stud out, just a few cuts and bruises and all is well now time to take apart the rear end.

Yeah the local track here is Southern International Raceway its about 15 min away from me. it closes just before X-mas and opens after new years so its only closed for about 3 weeks Im hoping to go in Jan if I ever get my s*@t together and finish the car .The 65* weather should be pretty decent even though the tracks altittude is 3500 ft.
