oil pan clearance

#1 Post by stracer859 » Sat Oct 14, 2006 9:47 am

finally got my new motor, new tranny and everything ready to go, went to drop it in last night and the oil pan hits the cross member, the pan is a moroso 21016, and supposedly it was supposed to clear the factory crossmember. so now i guess i have to notch it and was wanting some advice on doing this. any help is appreciated

Are you running solid motor mounts? I run Moroso solid mount and have had stands off a bunch of Novas and Camaros (asuming that is your car in your AV) and the entire line of Moroso mount I can get and my Moroso pan hits the cross member. Now don't laugh everyone! I use three Grade8 flat washers between the block and the mount and that gives me the clearance I need. Mine is a sbc in a 72 nova.Jason

I had the same problem and found that the longer style moroso solid mounts gave me enough lift to clear the pan. Im not sure about big block mounts but they make a short and a long for small chevy.

My oil pan is also a Moroso 10 Qt. and it clears fine in my 1970 Nova. About 1 inch clearance. Although only 6 qts are installed. As I was informed you want only the oil you need, so put the pan on the floor and fill it to the off set. What ever it takes is all you need for to much oil is not a good thing. Crank windage through the oil only airates it.
