Who makes a good small block chev

#1 Post by vegaracer » Mon Oct 15, 2007 9:34 pm

Anyone know who makes a good 434 short block. Going to be running it naturally aspirated on alcohol. I was looking at one from Scott Shafiroff. Anyone know how good of a motor he builds? Thanks in advance.

My Dad did several for drag racing and they do last about eight years with stock block with steel splayed main caps.

I've got a 540ci BBC from Scott Shafiroff in my Nova. I love it! I've had the engine since 2002 and it's been a rock solid bullet. Ran the motor for 4 years, including spraying it for two of those years and I never ever had a single problem. Had the engine freshened up after those 4 years by Shafiroff and once again they did a great job. I've sprayed it for the past 2 years with a 300+ shot of nitrous and it's never missed a beat. The only thing I've ever done to this motor is put valve springs on it. I would highly recommend them.

Bought a 421" rotating assembly from them a long time ago .It went 4 years without being freshened and then only rings,bearings,t/chain,oil pump and gaskets no hard parts.Still running good in a friends car.

We are really looking towards the short block from Shafiroff. It sounds like a good piece and from what I've heard on here and other boards, it may be the way to go.

Look toward the Dart block over the World. Block material and machine quality seem a little better.

Look beyond just the product being offered and find out about there warranty policies and record of satisfiying there customers if a problem should arise. Shafiroff has a great lineup of engines thats for sure but will they stand behind the products they sell is the question. I was assured by Mike Ghiraldi from Shafiroff's that if a problem where to arise that it would be taken of. They don't seen to treat there Canadain customers with the same respect as there US based ones. :?

Look on the internet to find out about a engine builders track record as it is a very powerful tool and will sway where people will put there money and what parts they buy.

Hope to see you at the track in Canada this summer. 8-)
