Pinched off header tube

#1 Post by MMAX » Sun May 25, 2008 10:29 am

How much will a pinched header tube affect performance? I noticed on my set of Super Comps that one of the primary tubes is almost totally pinched off.

A lot if one tube is that pinched! It needs to be fixed as that hole will be really rich and slow you down. How did it happen anyways? Any pictures of the damage? :-)

I got the set of headers with the car (the guy threw them in along with a TH400, 5000 stall, Griffin rad and 2 sets of tires). He must have hit something with them because all the tubes coming off the flange are twisted and the one tube is really pinched. I only noticed this when I was going to re- install them last Thurs. I took it to the local shop and the guy said it was too much to fix but he has a friend who's selling a set of ceramic coated Super Comps brand new for $300. I think that pinched tube may have been part of the problem with my last engine. 1968 back halved Camaro 3150 pounds, 461 bb Chev dynoed at 560hp & 560 lbs/ft torque (with a different set of headers), Th400 w/brake and Ford 9" w/4.57 gears running a best time of 12.0 @ 110 mph? Sounds a little off to me.
