Intake question: Edelbrock 2925 vs Motown 061040

#1 Post by 5448 » Sun Nov 01, 2009 2:34 pm

Winter is coming, so time to plan upgrades for next year!
I have a 388 SBC, 12.3:1, roller cam (250/260 @ 0.050, 0.622/0.629 lift, 106 CL), AFR 210's, 850 Holley on E85.
Currently the engine has a Victor Jr (2975); I am going to put a new intake on, and have been researching the Super Victor and Motown intakes. I've only been able to find limited information on the Motown, but it appears it may be slightly better than the Super Victor (I'm comparing unported manifolds). Does anyone have any real world comparisons of these two intakes? My plan is to run the manifold with port match only for now, and maybe in the future have plenum/runner work done.
I'm having a hard time justifying the extra $70 for the Motown if it's only marginally better out of the box.

Thanks,

Eric

Id run the Super Victor. I have one on my 360 cubic inch small block and its been 9.20s. Its ported to a 1206 gasket. I wouldnt run any intake unported just seems like thats leaving alot on the table if you ask me.

I've been looking at different porting options, seems to raise more questions than answers! What are some recommendations--companies, do's/don'ts? I agree that there's power to be had, I just don't want to send my cash to the wrong place!
Like I said, my initial plan is to port match to 1206, get a baseline, then get a full port in the future. A $600 port isn't in the budget right now.

Thanks,
Eric

I'd use the SV, I've had both the 4150 and Dominator versions. When you want to get it modified, check out Chad Speier below.

Thanks. I've been lurking over there a little for the past week and plan to call Chad to discuss. I was just curious if there were any suggestions to think and discuss with him--always good to have a few ways to look at things!
