Re: aluminum rods
Your going to be able to reuse your rods and crank on a 540 depending on rod length. There were some guys on yellowbullet talking about the streghth of a stock block and someone had some made some straps for the mains that helped over 1000hp.

The midwest racing blocks are cast in china! Beware, probably made by Pro Comp. For jsut a few hundred bucks more you can get a dart or merlin.

Id definately get the dart block with billet steel splayed mains. And aluminum rods all the way. U will be very happy with it expecially on the spray.

I have never used those rods, but I'm fairly sure they are cast and machined by Callies for Howards.

Just from the phrase (forged billet) I would stay away from it. Forged rods take a raw casting and whack it a few times to make the shape of the rod, then machine it.
Billet rods are machined from extruded material.
The billet rod people I would trust are, MGP, GRP, and R&R, and we have used Manley's forged rods in a small chevy and they have been great to us.
