Oil Filter and Oil questions / comments

#1 Post by Ls7camaro » Mon Nov 12, 2012 12:03 pm

Ok, I have a question. What kind of Oil Filter does everyone use on their race car/street car/daily driver?

On my car I was using K&N oil Filter, I was using Fram Filters. On my street cars I have been running Fram Filters (2000 dodge caravan and 2002 yukon denali).

Is there a difference in the different Fram Filters, tough gaurd/high mileage? For the K&N that is on the race car, I have no clue why I switched?

If you say what kind you use, can you say why? This will lead to what kind of oil does everyone run? Synthetic? Synthetic Blend? Regular? I run 20w/50 Castrol in the 79 Camaro with the 454. I run regular castrol in the mini van and synthetic in the yukon. Is this right? I hear people running Brad Penn? or Royal Purple? can anyone say why?

If this horse has been beat on before, can you refer me to the correct area?
I can't wait for race season, this has got to be the year.

I use carquest or Napa, (made for them both by Wix). Lot's of horror stories about Fram out there, and at least some are true. I changed oil to start the season a couple ofyears ack, and warmed up on old oil and filter, changed oil and filter and lost 80 percent of my oil pressure according to the gauge. Yanked the Fram off and picked up a Car Quest one on my way home from work, and right back to the normal range. Might be that they fixed their issues now, but i will never know...

Same with the daily's...

I wouldn't run a Fram Filter on my enemy's lawnmower. Far too many reports of filters collapsing with that brand from local friends and on forums.

Typically for street drivers I use Wix or Baldwin, the race car gets Wix Racing filters.

Wix or Carquest premium(re-boxed wix) on everything I own. I run a municipal fleet of 300+ vehicles and they all get wix except a few odd ball ones which are only made by baldwin. A quality filter and frequent fluid changes are cheap insurance against mechanical issues.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.

I run NAPA filters. Like others have said, they are reboxed Wix.

I run NAPA but also have been advised to run K&N.
Those who think they know it all have no way of finding out they don't.........
