Yep, I picked some of that up yesterday. I'm thinking that I'd prefer to have my fab guy lay a bead on over it instead of JB Weld. It's not a lot of pressure and JB Weld would certainly do the rick but I think having it patched with aluminum would make me feel better. The problem is that my fab guy is out state building tube chassis for some Midwest racing team until the 18th. I think I'll just thread a small stainless machine screw or something into it for the time being. Got my pinhole leak patched for now - I'll get with my fab guy and get him to lay a bead on it next week.
Finally made noise today. Motor fired in less than a full spin and sounds good, idles great and seems to like all the new parts. I double checked all my rockers and what not and it all seems good so far.
After I put the timing light on it I discovered I was 8 degrees off on my static timing
Now the problem is the transmission. No spin in any gear. After I get finished with my initial motor tune I'll drop the pan on the trans and see if there are spare parts in the pan. Dunno what the problem is yet, stay tuned.

Yeah, the trans issue seems to have cleared itself up. While it was up on the stands and just before I was going to drop the pan on the trans, I fired it up, put it in 1st gear and went back and spun the back tires for 20 to 30 seconds and the damn thing picked it up. Everything seems to be copacetic with the trans now - go figger.
Any ideas why it would do that ? Recall that the trans has been sitting cold for a year and a half. Mebbe stuff was dry or sticky...
Anyway, after that I got it down on the ground and went for a spin. Everything seems to be working great, lots of power, nice yakkity-yak idle and the trans is working well, even the trans-brake.
I screwed up though - after I fired the motor the first time (in the video), I warmed it up, shut it down, dropped the first oil load and filter, re-oiled it and re-torqued the rockers and set the valves. And then I goofed installing valve cover gaskets on the right side - the top side of the gasket dropped into the head and I had a huge gaping hole under the valve cover. I took the Camaro out for a loop around the area and by the time I got back to the shop the fricking thing was a rolling smoke bomb. It spit oil all over the top end, the bell housing, headers, etc. I have a hell of a mess to clean up now - I am *such* a moron !
Other than these issues I'm pretty happy with the build so far.
With this build the cam is 2 degrees advanced and I'm going to spin the blower just a touch faster - mebbe get my boost up in the 16 to 18 psi range for my days at the track. With this crisp new top end and these Jesel shaft rockers I should be able to drop a tenth or better on my times, get me down into the 9.60 or even 9.50 range. That'd be a hoot :)

Ok, been a couple of weeks of bumping around town and so far, so good.
Motor is *waaaaaay* healthy and has a ton of bottom end. This booger has lots more snap to it and I can't wait to get it to the track to see if it'll live to reach the stripe. Assuming it doesn't hairball on me at launch or at rpm, it should run pretty strong. It'll still be at least a couple of weeks before I can get it out to the track, but it's only 25 miles from me. It's mostly gathering all my gear up and getting the slicks back on the car, dropping the headers and grabbing the trailer.
We'll see if all this go-fast stuff I dropped into this little 427 will make a difference. I'm really hoping to drop into the mid 9.60's (or heck, 9.50's ) but for now I'll be a happy camper if it lives to get back to the trailer on the first pass. I didn't really change the motor build much beyond bumping the cam 2 degrees, adding lots more valve spring and removing valve train flex by adding the shaft rockers. Finally made it out to test-n-tune today.
Had a number of issues with the battery - I'm not too impressed with the service life of this Optima Red Top - the damn thing won't hold a charge. I had to jump it several times today and I had a number of problems during runs where the motor would pop and flake out up around 7000 rpm.
I discovered I can get 4 1/2 runs out of a single 5 gallon can of 112 - together with all the lumping around in the pits and sitting idling in staging. Still, it was a successful day - all the parts stayed where they were supposed to.
The track was really crappy - it rained like mad earlier in the week and those guys don't do any sort of real prep on the launch. My first couple of runs I spun a lot and had to lift - ran 10.35, 10.20, 10.00 and the last full run of the day was 9.90 @ 135. Not as fast as I'd hoped but I can't complain.
I may have an ignition issue beyond just the flat battery. Can you hurt one of these MSD Digital-6 boxes with a flat battery like that ? On my 5th and last pass, the motor was fuel starved (d-uh me) so I lifted and motored back to the trailer. As I was lining up to load it into the trailer, it ran out of fuel. After fueling the damn thing, it would'nt start. We ended up having to jump it and then the goofy thing wouldn't fire. That's pretty unusual - this build always fires on the first crank. That time, nada. I thought maybe I'd flooded it so we pushed it on into the trailer and I came home.
After getting home, I tried starting it again with no luck - no fire. So like I said, can you hurt these MSD boxes with low voltage ?
I have some additional pictures my wife took from the stands - after I get them uploaded to photobucket I'll post some a few. And yes, my reaction time *is* that bad. Remember, compared to the rest of you guys, I'm a permanent rookie

Congrat's on the 9.90, that's a new PB isn't it?
Not sure on your box, might want to verify battery voltage is high enough if you're having issues there might be too low while cranking.

My local track is open year round though they scale way back this time of year. Btw, I'm thinking about gearing up for the big New Years Day event they're planning. Sorry (hehe).
My PB is 9.75 @ 139.8. I'm thinking this build, once I get all the details sorted out, might better that down the road. I'm going to tweak the boost a bit more the next time out I think. We'll have to see what that does to my timing, plug range and jetting, but that'll give me a good increase in HP.
