Fuel Pumps

#1 Post by BracketNova » Sun Mar 22, 2015 11:19 pm

I'm going to be upgrading my fuel delivery system shortly. I'm running out of fuel with my Holley black pump and -8 supply (-8 return). So I'm going to go up to -10 on the supply, but I'm not sure what pump to go with. I don't want to end up with another noisy one like the one I have now.

The Aeromotive A3000 is looking pretty good to me.

Suggestions?

As far as quiet, the Mallory pumps seem to be the quietest ones I have used. As far as recommendation, I have had good luck with the Magnafuel pumps. I have a Magnafuel 500 in the car now. I don't think you need that much, but they have a 275 and a 300.

I've been using an Aeromotive A2000 for quite a while now, it's been a pretty good pump.

Thanks guys. I had forgot about MagnaFuel.

I think the car makes a little less than 600 hp now, I've got a roller setup in the basement that I'll put in when I scrape together money for heads. Apparently my head's spring heights/pressure couldn't be made to work with the roller...or at least not for as cheap as I liked since I just had them redone a couple years ago. So, for no more than the 500 cost I'd probably just go with the big one...unless there are issues with that?

If I'm liking the idea of fuel injection someday, should I get a high psi pump now? Or will restricting psi cause issues? Aeromotive's site suggests that A1000 pump in both carb and injected applications :smt102

I was liking the A3000 because of its -12 in and -10 out. I would think that would help in keeping the pump fed?

The A3000 is basically an updated A2000 with modular connectors, etc. It's not a Fuel Injection pump, and I don't think you really want a fuel injection pump until you switch to that really. Like the A2000, I assume it's not a quiet pump.

I have a magnafuel prostar 500 and I like it alot. I will say that even though they say it for continous duty, It does get pretty loud and really heat the fuel if you plan on street driving with it for extended periods of time, probably because it moves so much fuel while driving and is constantly returning it to the tank via the bypass. I have sinced swithed to fuel injection and I bought one of the dual holley inline efi pumps, nice piece, extremly quiet and I like the fact that I only need to drive the car on one pump and then turn the second one on to race, yet alone have a spare if something happens to me when I have been doing dragweek.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.
