Stock 400 w/ nitrous
Hey everyone this is my first post on this forum but I have been reading other posts for awhile.
How much power are stock 400 blocks good to? I have a 511 4 bolt (wish I had 509 2 bolt) which recently made 520hp 510tq on motor. I'm looking at getting a pretty basic plate system and would like to spray just a 150 shot. Would the stock block stand up to this? 6500rpm would be the max.
Thanks, great forum!
Andrew

YES THE FACTORY BLOCK WILL HOLD UP,, YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT THE BLOCK CORRECT ? AND NOT A WHOLE SHORT BLOCK THATS STOCK ?
I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS RUNNING IN THE SAME CLASS I AM BUILDING FOR AND HE RAN A 9.06 WITH A FACTORY BLOCK IN A 3200 LB CAR
ALSO BOWTIE69 ON STEVES NOVA SITE, HAS RUN 14 TO 1 WITH THE UNIT SET PRETTY HARD WITH A FACTORY BLOCK

13:1 406 23 degree afr's, heavy porting, custom nitrous cam from cam motion.
4340 rotating assy. je nitrous pistons.
1150 holley, super victor.
650 hp is about the upper end of a non raised runner 23 degree without spending really exotic money on it.
what heads and intake are you planning to run?
are you planning to put splayed caps on the block, 1/2 fill with hard blok? i recommend both, even with some street driving.

I am going to be running the new afr 227 as soon as they are out i will have my pistons made, super victor with 4150 flange as per class rules,
a scat 4340 profiled crank, custom comp cam, splayed billet caps and fill to bottom of waterpump holes. What did your head flow if you dont mind my asking ?

Before you put 6" rods in it, you should talk to your piston supplier about compression height if you're planning on spraying a 350 shot. From what I've been reading lately, the preferred rod length is a 5.85" or even a 5.7" to keep those rings away from the nitrous.ERV JR wrote:WHAT KIND OF ROD DID YOU HAVE INT THE MOTOR ?
