trigger wheel with pulley

#1 Post by a1elec » Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:05 pm

i have a crank trigger and want to add a pulley for a alternator. there is nothing to center the pulley other than the 3 bolts. is this acceptable? the pulley normally slips in the balancer but the hole on the trigger wheel is larger. any thoughts? thanks john

Bo Laws makes some very nice centering washers that can line up your MSD wheel and your pulleys. Need to call them up and tell them the sizes of what you're working with, maybe they'll have one to fit.

I think that's the way to go, without the centering washer there can be quite a bit of slop in the bolts and the wheel and the pulley can run out quite a bit.

I'm running a stock crank pulley with my MSD crank trigger without any troubles. The belt stays in place just fine at 7500 rpm.

The trigger cam with some washers that slip in the middle and keep it all centered up. At least mine did.

I run one of the Moroso single groove crank pulle with my MSD crank trigger and it works just fine. I didn't do anything special and I've never lost a belt up to 7800RPM.

You should be able to drill and tap the plate and use the right length bolt and spacer to position the alternator inline with the crank pulley. Then you can use a commonly available slotted upper arm for the adjustment.
