Moonshine and juice???

#1 Post by ThorazineShuffle » Tue May 19, 2009 5:42 pm

Hello everyone, and thanks for a great board, as i am a first time poster here.
I'm in the process of switching my 327 over to running E85. While i'm at it i am going to add an nos big shot kit. From everything i've read you have to add an aux fuel tank for your nos side. Is this because there are no calibration charts for alky? Or, are there other problems with mixing shine and juice?

Thanks,
Ben

I prefer to chase my shine with ice water. Especially the homemade Brandy. It's a pretty hot drink!!
'87 S10 stock suspension, Caltracs, 9" rearend, 1.82 Glide, 383 SBC,
Brodix Track1 Heads, 14:1 compression, 180 shot plate,
2" tube Hussler Headers, 1.38 60ft., 6.20 ET 1/8th, 109 MPH,
Still Tuning, more to come.

One of our members is spraying with Moonshine, Scott Willis. I'm not sure that he's got the tune up perfected, but I know he hasn't melted anything down yet. Maybe he'll see this and comment.

So far, so good with running E85 in my combination for the past 6-8 months.
Healthy SBC 400, 13ish to 1, good heads, roller valve train, big shot plate, etc.

Plug reading on E85 is tough because they are white most of the time if your tune up is close.
The O2 wideband helped confirm the tune up is pretty happy. On the gas scale it reads high 12s cruising and lower 11s on the spray.

Since E85 takes 30-35% more fuel than the gas tune ups, that makes the regular rich NOS recommendations about right. 10-12 jets bigger on the spray side, 6# flowing thru the same size fuel jet.

better double check the numbers NX gives you.
i spoke with them also. the e85 nitrous tune up they suggested was so lean, it would have melted my pistons. maybe it depends on which technician you speak with.
either way, it will be good to check your fuel flows against your known gas baselines and then get 30% more fuel in it.

Thanks for the info. Time and money are both tight, so it will take me a while to get the new setup finished. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Thanks again,
Ben
