Noobie Question
Hey guys...I've done a little looking around but haven't seen an answer that settles my stomach.
I don't know much about Nitrous...I am wondering if it would be safe to spray 100hp on my setup. A deal on a cheater kit has peaked my interest. I have a holley black pump running through -8 line to my mallory return regulator through -8 line back to the tank. I run E85. I have a 700 cfm double pumper. BBC 402 with a decent cam. Car runs about a 11.30 on a great day. Forged internals. Steel heads. 8" converter/PG. 4.88 gears but soon to be 4.30 or 4.11s.
Can I tax my fuel system anymore and be safe...or would I have to upgrade the fuel system - which I don't want to do and will scrap the idea if I have too

Re: Noobie Question
I'd like to see you add a second fuel pressure regulator if you're gonna do it so that you can have control of the fuel pressure on the nitrous system.

Spaz, Like this.
I'm running the Magna Fuel fuel log with their regs. but most of the time I see Holley regs' on the fuel side of the nitrous. I have a gauge on the in side of the fuel log and gauge's on the out side of the regs. You need to have control of the fuel so as not to over or under fuel your motor when useing nitrous. "THAT COULD BE BAD!!!"
I have all my stuff back from CFM performance so I'm now pluming everything for the new set up.
Just my opinion---- Putting it together right the first time can save you lots of headaches later. Your not wanting to run lots of nitrous now but once you start you'll only want more. Keep that in mind!!!!!!!

Re: Noobie Question
I agree with john and supernova on the regulator, but my concern would also be for the pump. You said you were running e85 instead of gasoline, which is like methanol and the fuel requirments for the engine are greater than it would be for gasoline. If the engine was on gasoline, then it might be enough on a little tune up, but on e85 I think you might be pushing it a little. Also, I would be concerned with the tuneup on e85 vs. gas, the jetting is for gasoline only, and a different tuneup is needed for the e85 which I am sure someone has. Maybe some of the methanol guys will chime in, but I think most guys running methanol for fuel still run a stand alone gasoline system for the enrichment when running nitrous. A cheap way out would just be to leave your current fuel set up alone, and then add a small tank(1 gallon cell?) mounted up front somewhere and run another pump and regulator, a blue pump and a return style holley regulator would be great. You could probably put something together for around a hundred bucks or so.
I am not really sure what the question is, but I am pretty sure the answer is Big Block.
Re: Noobie Question
Oh yah, the pump. I'm running a pump much bigger then I need and running it all from the rear of the car. Magna Fuel Pro Star 500

Re: Noobie Question
Well adding a couple dead heads to my return reg. I don't really have a problem with...That's what I saw on yours right Supernova? I already have one d/h regulator laying around.
I guess what is making me nervous is my 140 holley and -8 supply line. I've read of some folks using a blue pump and 3/8th line...but that doesn't mean it's safe I suppose if I could find a used bg 280 or something similar I would feel better. I dislike how flippin' loud that holley pump is anyway.
Is there any general guidlines out there somewhere? Maybe I shouldn't worry about it so much...I could always resell it if I can't see the right flow to the nitrous fuel solenoid.

Re: Noobie Question
Supernova...Is that just a log with a gauge and two d/hs? My mallory return reg has 4 ports I use two two my carb now, I could run another to a my d/h I have laying around then to the fuel noid right?

Re: Noobie Question
I wouldn't run a reg. off of another reg. The best way is to run a fuel log and two reg's. My pump allows me to run 28-30 psi to the fuel log and I take the pressure down from there. The carb see's about 7.5 psi and the nitrous see's 5.0 psi and up. Doing it the way I have it set up allows my to change the nitrous fuel pressure with out messing with the carb fuel pressure.
Now my set isn't finished. I'll run a bleed off at the fuel solenoid back to the tank. The carb reg. doesn't need one. John has a great tech peace on how to do it. It helps the reg. to flow fuel to the solenoid when it's activated.

I like what ytnova said about running a separte fuel system in the front. It would cost you less and be easy're to set up.

Re: Noobie Question
So ideally, I want to bring fuel up to a manifold with a gauge on it and a fuel return. Which feeds a dead head to my carb w/ gauge and a dead head to my fuel noid w/ gauge...and, make a bleed off just before the fuel noid to keep it primed and ready to go which plumbs back to my return line?
Or, do a seperate system.

Re: Noobie Question
I would do a seprate fuel system in the front. I'm did mine from the trunk cause I had to build my whole system as new. If I had a system already in place I would put one in the front for the nitrous.
I would run gasoline in the nitrous system, E85 is hard to tune. Run E85 in the carb and gasoline in the nitrous system.
