small block 454

#1 Post by rustbucket » Tue Mar 16, 2010 11:24 pm

I stumbled into a 454 sbc today. 4.250 bore with a 4 inch stroke. Eagle crank, h beam rods and mahle forged pistons.
Im not sure of the rod length and camshaft specs.
Will this combo take any nos without blowing the sides of the block out with the side load?
it is a motown block. How much should the block hold? I should only need to spray 75/100 shot.
thanks

Is it a std deck height or a 9.325 if its std the comp height is probably really short so the rings are stacked pretty close to each other. I would only be guessing if its safe to spray it Ill let the experts answer that.

I think it'll be ok to shoot it with 100 hp kit......
You can spray 100hp to just about anything......

Man I would hit that with a 400 gun and never even think twice about it.

As long as the tune is correct you will never have an issue with it. Unless there is something really stupid about the engine, like a real deep valve pocket that only lets a piston top thickness of .050", or rings that are not fit proper etc...
