Spark Plug Gap

#1 Post by Coonass On Gas » Wed Sep 12, 2007 9:13 am

I searched the sight for info on plug gap.
Now I know everyone has different combinations but I am looking on different opinions and theory on what gap, and side note what true gain from indexing the plugs
My settup is a 482 200shot 1 stage, with a 7al2 box with trigger
I run ngk v power plugs.
Thanks for the info in advance

Here's my theory - the more cylinder pressure the more voltage and current it takes to fire the spark. The wider the gap the harder it is to jump under pressure.

Ballpark for a 200 shot I'd like to see no bigger than .035 if you have a hot ignition, .030 might be better. The more you spray the more you need to be tightening it up but a lot depends on what kind of ignition you're using. OEM .045 gaps may be very hard to fire under high cylinder pressures and even harder when you start adding alky and nitrous to the mix.

Some Pro Mod's only run .018 gap.
