ballpark advance curve?

please help a beginner,,for a footbrake dragcar,383 chevy stroker,3500 stall, 6200 shift point. what would be a ballpark setup for the mechanical advance curve.,.,if you need more info please ask..,thanks in advance ,.,mike

generally you want the advance to be all in before 3000. i myself run a crank trigger so i dont have any mechanical advance, just hi rpm retard stages.

I run my timing locked out, but generally you just want all the timing in at a lower rpm than the converter stall speed.

Ditto on what he said about having your total advance in before your stall speed.

thanks for you help! do you think 38 degrees total is a good ballpark? if my initial is too advanced it starts hard(slow cranking) thanks for any ideas fellow racers!!! mike

34-38 total is a good ball park.If your initial makes it crank slow recurve your dist so you can run less initial and still run your total around 38.What kind of dist and box if any?

Moroso has a nice kit: new weights,springs,bushings etc .
