Not sure about the earlier years, but my 71 ss was black on the top and bottom horizontal lines, the rest of the horizontal lines were polished, and all of the vertical lines were black. My 72 (white car in avatar) has all of the horizontal lines polished and all of the vertical lines are black. It kinda matches the moldings outside of the headlights. When I repainted my car, I repolished all of the faces of the horizontal lines, painted the whole grill glossy black, and while it was wet, I took paint thinner and wiped the black off of the faces. I did basically the same thing with the outside moldings, so the look the same. I have a pick, I will see if I can send it to ya.

The SS grill has a crome bar on the top and bottom of the grill, black center. on both my Novas. My non SS is black with the front edges crome as YTNOVA said or did. Not sure if all years are the same.
You could also look into classic industries catilog for pics.

Try this sight, the pics are kind of hard to see but I think you can tell the differance from the years and styles.

If you cant get one all chrome just strip the black paint off we use some very mild paint stripper at work its made from soy beans it wont hurt the grille at all but it does take a while to work.

My mistake, dadnova is correct on the ss grille, black in the middle and chrome on the top and bottom.
