What brand alternator?

#1 Post by 71 Nova » Tue Feb 06, 2007 10:57 pm

I think I'm gonna change my rebuilt GM 100 amp alternator (one wire type) that's pretty old. I have heard that an alternator can fail and cause funny electrical problems but still charge the battery. I have been chasing some electrical gremlins lately and want to eliminate the alternator as a potential problem. BTW, I have a trunk mounted battery setup. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations on what brand altenator I should buy? I am considering a PowerMaster...
Thanks,
Ken

The powermaster 1 wire setups I've had came with a new GM alternator. Had GM stamped on the case.

dont waste your time ......POWERMASTER !! these guys have got their act together. ...i was also suprised that after sending in a letter regarding the quality of ther product, that they wanted to publish some pics of my car.

(msd also makes a universal fit alternator, that will fit anything)

My only gripe with my power master is the charge wire. I had problems for the longest time with it not making enough juice to run my fan, defrost, and headlights at the same time. Then I went on their websit and found out I needed 4 guage wire, when they sent 8. Once I changed it to the 4 it became a whole new alternator. Good luck.
