Transbrake Setup and Usage

Transbrake Setup and Usage
My new Camaro has a TH400 with a transbrake, and a MSD 7AL with just a top end rev limiter. I’ve never set up or driven a car with a transbrake, so I have a few questions.
What does a typical transbrake/rev limiter setup consist of? Do you just activate the brake, stall the converter at full throttle then release the brake to launch? Or should the engine have a rev limiter at some intermediate RPM (below converter stall speed) that is deactivated when the brake is released? Or ???

Re: Transbrake Steup and Usage
Normally, theres an intermediate RPM you hold it at. On the 7AL, you plug in a two or three step module into where your rev limit chip is now. When you press you transbrake button, it activates the two-step to hold the motor at the intermediate RPM and your transbrake. When you release the button, all hell brakes loose.

Ditto. If you really wanna get tricky(like me) you can add a delay box. Same as above only you react to the top bulb, let go of the button, it runs through the box -nothing happens for a second or so, THEN all hell brakes loose.

Re: Transbrake Steup and Usage
I would think that your car would already have a two-step box on it.
look around real good.

Whats the red box on the dash of the car? It looks like it says something retard on it, and has spots for three chips, but only has one in it.

Who's transmission is in the car? Coan, TCI, .....
And did you get any info on the valve body?
Some Manual V/B require you to press the Transbrake button in reverse. It may going into reverse but will not last long.
The transbrake is like side stepping the clutch in a stick car. You should be able to get to XXXX rpm base on the convertor and then release the button make a quicker reaction time.
Check the link for info on the box.

The red box is the nitrous retard (MSD PN 8972). Only one N2O retard chip installed now.vegaracer wrote:Whats the red box on the dash of the car? It looks like it says something retard on it, and has spots for three chips, but only has one in it.
It is a TCI TH400 with a reverse pattern manual transbrake valve body. I got some info with the car that I need to look thru. Thanks!CDR Performance wrote:Who's transmission is in the car? Coan, TCI, .....
