PTC converter?

#1 Post by 1320quick » Mon Jul 16, 2007 6:14 pm

Hey Guys, any one use a PTC converter? I'm thinking about buying one for my Nova but just not sure about their quality. Yea, I'd love to have a Neal Chance conveter but $$$ is tight. Was hoping the PTC converter would get me through the rest of the season.

Check out The Converter shop in Lake Havasu, Az. I went with their S4 9 1/2" 4600 rpm stall converter this year. I gained 2 tenths and 4 mph in the 1/4 mile with a 1.38 60 ft. time. I wanted a Neal Chance but just don't have that kinda money in the racing budget.

Talk to Rusty.

When people mention Neal Chance they tend to think of the Pro Mod Bolt Together converter that is quite expensive, many people fail to realize that they have lower cost "street performance" converters that are every bit as good others "race" converters.

Call Marty at Neal Chance, Hutch, or Keith Neal - tell them what your budget is and what you're wanting to do and see if they can't fix you up.

I use a ptc and have had no problems, and I would not think twice about using them again, but as stated above, if you want the best, neil chance is where it is at.

Thanks for your input guys. On John's advise, I bit the bullet and I have a Neal Chance converter on the way. Spoke to Marty and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. Way more $$$ than I wanted to spend but if it gets this tank into the 8's, it will be worth every penny.

You're seldom disappointed when you go first class...

What was the old converter doing wrong? Was you running over it?

I agree, I try to alway put the best in this car but $$$ has been really tight lately. The old converter was a Coan 8" 5800 RPM and the car seemed to be driving through it. I'm not 100% sure the converer is the whole problem but I'll have the transmission checked as well since it will be out for the converter. The RPM's don't drop immediately when I shift. The car seems to coast at the same RPM and you can see the nose of the car drops between each shift. Marty seems to think the car will pick up 4 tenths with this new converter. I'll cross my fingers.....

It'll be a whole new setup with the fresh trans & converter it sounds like.
