Which tire to use?

#1 Post by sc racing » Sun Dec 16, 2007 3:14 pm

I can fit all different size tires on the car with the biggest being M/T 29.5x10.5x15W but I dont think the biggest tire is the best choice. My application is a light car,low HP about 500(for now)no nitrous, TH350 no transbrake.Do I stick with the old bias slick ?the radial slick?what about the different compounds?

Do you drive the car on the street? If so I'd say you might love those new M&T Drag Radials, we put those on a '82 Monte Carlo and it hooked VERY damn good. Also can't go wrong with some M&H RaceMasters...got those on a mini-tubbed '48 English Anglia with blow smallblock and it likes to yank the front wheels and bend control arms when it sets down :D

Some tires are better for stick shift cars, some are better for heavy cars with high horsepower, some tire grow more than others, thats why they make different tires.
I guess best choice would be for: wearing out the fastest, the ugliest, and the worst hooking tire available. Thanks

Winston or Cooper 275x15. I dont care who you are thats funny. I tried to race my 55 chev with its 305/50/15 coopers street tires instead of its BFG 235/60 drag radials. Couldnt go strait with the coopers and never spun the BFG's. So with 500hp Id go for the Winstons.
