Tallest and widest tire on a 69 nova

#1 Post by 434 nova » Sat Jan 05, 2008 7:56 pm

What would be the biggest tire i could fit on a 69 nova with caltracs, splitmono leafs and ranch shocks in the stock location. I will be running a built 8.5 10 bolt, also if i run a weld 15x8 what backspacing will i need. I want to be able to fit a 28x10.5 or a 275 60 15 drag radial is this possible . thankyou

I have a 71 Nova and I have run both tire sizes you mentioned. I have relocated the shocks to the inside of the springs and massaged the inner wheelwells a little bit. I run a 15x8 wheel with 5.5BS.

I have 8" rims also and a 275/60 radial or a 28x11.50 et street fit even before I relocated the shocks, but I had trimmed the outer wheel lip all the way around when I put new wheel lip sheet metal on my car.

On my nova and my brothers, we run 15x8 welds w/5.5 bs with 275 drag radials and they fit great. Both cars have 1 1/2 lowered split leafs and caltracs, I did move the shocks to inside of the frame and move the inner wheel house alittle . I've heard you can run a 1/2 inch spacer ( 1pc billet ) with this offset and not move anything, but I haven't tried it. Walt p.s. I did get a 295 /65 dr under my car with these rims once, but everything was CRAZY close.

i used 15x8 with 5.5 bs and a 29x10.5 mt slick. you pretty much have to move the shocks at the least along with rolling the wheelwell lip.

We put a 275/60 and a 28x10.5 under our 72 nova and didn't move a thing. The wheel is a 15x8 w/5.5 and I use the Mr. Gasket spacers to bring it out a little but it fit great.I cant tell you how thick the spacers are but the are differnt between the two tires.I just buy spacers at the swapmeets. They are used and I have never checked them.
