Currently have ET streets on a 3600 lb car and I am getting ready to go to ET drag. I have tubes in the ET streets and I know MT recommends running tubes. Someone told me yesterday to do away with the tubes. They have been told by several chassis professionals the tubes will not let the tire work. I used to not run tubes and the car hooked better, of course that was with less power as well. Just wanted to know what everyone else thought about the tubes?

I think most do not use tubes.I dont or I should say Im not going to when I get the car done.

I think the only time tubes might help is in a heavy car that needs a stiff sidewall, the tube helps stiffen the sidewall. Having said that I run a Hoosier radial slick, no tubes, just coated liberally with dawn dishwashing soap before mounting.

I listend to people on this site about not running tubes. And this weekend in pro bracket 95% of cars were running tubes.looked like every body was running pretty good.

Key word there is "bracket", nothing against our brothers who bracket race, but they ain't after every hundredth of a second they can find either.

In my opinion, it depends on the weight, power and tire size. Sometimes tubes will help a small tire deal with a heavy car that's making a lot of power.

Craig you used them to stiffen the sidewalls I assume, how much difference did it make?

i like tubes and run them myself.

I run tubes in a 28x10.5 S slick and would not take them out for nothing. It helps stiffen up the side walls and lets the tire last longer. On my car if i ran without tubes i would only get maybe 18 to 20 passes before the sidewalls were trash. I can usually get about 30 now with the tubes. I would say if your car is over 3300 pounds and you run quicker than 8.50 i would use tubes in anything 29.5X10.5 or smaller.

I can't recall an exact difference in ET or the 60' but the tires do seem to last longer and work better on my car with tubes. I'd have to really dig through my log book to come up with any exact numbers.

A lot of us dont run as fast as you guys so in your opinon do you think the tubes would help in slower cars that run in the 10's or 11's ?

3400 lbs and 10.40s the car will thank you my 2900lb car @9.20 no tubes 14x32, my 3500 lb 9sec car i have extras it drives nice @140. no et diff just the sidewalls don't have see through at 40 passes i run the stiff side wall and tubes and 13 lbs of air and still kill them... IMHO a real 4 link car would be diffrent and a lader bar would be diffrent no hard and fast rule a friend of mine runs 14x32 @ 200 no tubes, funny cars run outer tubes and an inner liner that will keep the car from comming down off the 36s...
