How do you tell how much rubber is left on a pair of slicks?

I know the M/T slicks have used have "wear holes" in tread. You can typically judge the amount of rubber left on them by the depth of the holes. In my experience, with a heavy car on a small slick, the sidewalls go way before the tread. If you purchased them new, looking at the 60's in your log book is the best judge of how much is left in the tire.

You will know when they are used up. I couldnt figure out why my car was acting so bad, untill I look at the tires  Then I looked in my log book and had right around 100 passes on them

427belair, how was it acting bad? I didn't buy mine new, they came with the car when I bought it. The guy I got it from didn't know how many passes he had on them. I maybe have about 10 quarter mile passes on them as well as some 100' competitions.
